The Katsina State Government has entered into a strategic partnership with AFEX, a leading Nigerian agribusiness company, to accelerate agricultural transformation in the state. This collaboration was finalized during a high-level meeting between AFEX executives led by her Group Chief Executive, Mr. Ayodeji Balogun and the Executive Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda PhD CON.
Equally present were the Governor's Chief Economic Adviser, Khalil Nur Khalil, and the Director General of the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi.
As the chief Press Secretary to government outed in a press release, says the partnership outlines several key initiatives which include:
1. Establishment of a sesame processing plant at the Katsina State Green Economic Zone along Jibia Road, aimed at adding value to the state's sesame production and boosting exports.
2. Creation of a seed multiplication center at the Songhai Farm in Funtua to improve local farmers' access to high-quality seeds, thereby increasing agricultural productivity.
3. Expansion of AFEX's farmer outgrower program in the state, providing training, inputs, and market linkages to smallholder producers.
4. Introduction of a commodity exchange platform in Katsina to enhance price transparency and market access for farmers.
Governor Radda expressed his satisfaction with AFEX's commitment, stating, "We are pleased to partner with a reputable company like AFEX, which has a proven track record of driving agricultural transformation in Nigeria. This collaboration aligns with our vision to make Katsina an investor-friendly destination and create opportunities for economic growth."
The Governor has requested AFEX to promptly submit their requirements for the approved projects, demonstrating the state's readiness to facilitate a smooth implementation process.
Taking advantage of this occasion, Governor Radda extended an invitation to other investors, both local and international, to explore the investment-friendly environment in Katsina State. "Katsina is open for business, and we welcome all interested parties to come and be a part of our agricultural revolution," he declared.
This partnership with AFEX is expected to significantly boost agricultural productivity, create jobs, and enhance food security in Katsina State, ultimately contributing to the state's economic development.
